Watch out DETOUR AHEAD

THE ROAD ENDS HERE YOU MUST TAKE A DETOUR!

I received some big news today.  Get ready for it.  You won't believe it.  Are you sitting down?

Kazakhstan has put adoptions on hold.  Isn't that just fantastic?  Yep it is the truth.  I almost screamed when I found out, but I was at work and it wouldn't have been appropriate.  So what's next?  I need to change the name of the blog to...

Finding a Park in Nepal

I am going to Everest!  Who wants to join me?

Hang in there as I don't think this is supposed to last more than a few months. And delays of 3-6 mos are not that unusual in any process - especially Kazakhstan AND Nepal. We had 3 delays similar to this last year while trying to submit paperwork and had to re-do our dossier 3 times! Hopefully you won't have to re-do too much paperwork. Also, since our dossier reached Kaz it has actually gone faster than expected so it seems that the delays are front-loaded now. Hang in there!

I will second what Kelly says...there are always people who have terrible things happen, but overall, I think Kazakhstan has its act together. When I compare the info I get from our agency on Kazakhstan vs. Nepal, especially with allegations of baby trafficking in Nepal, I'd stay with Kaz.

Yes, stay the course! In March of 2008 Kaz closed it doors for a short period of "restructuring" time. A lot of people got nervous then too and jumped ship (either to a different agency or new program all together) and I have yet to meet one who came home faster or a better experience.
Kaz is doing the right thing by implementing the Hague. Don't lose heart! I feel you pain. We went through MANY obstacles in our adoption, but had we not had each and every one of them we would have arrived in Kaz too soon to meet our daughter!!
Keep the faith!!

I started in Russia in 2006 and it completely shut down to international adoptions for many, many months - can't even remember how many. Rather than withdraw my dossier given all the uncertainty about when we might expect things to resume, I put together another dossier and sent it to Kazakhstan. You can have more than one I-171 and you can have separate dossiers in two countries, so you may want to pursue that avenue instead of just giving up on Kaz. Even with the delay, you may still get there faster than you do to Nepal.
